Reduced sick time and workplace empowerment among the benefits of workplace diabetes management support

Every company wants its employees to feel confident, empowered and not distracted by health issues at work. This can be a challenge for employees with diabetes, a condition that doesn’t quit.

According to a survey1 of 200 benefits decision-makers sponsored by Roche Diabetes Care, 81% of respondents believe employees with diabetes keep their condition a secret. Two-thirds (67%) say they believe employees with diabetes find everyday management of their condition feels like a full-time job.

Nearly half of all U.S. work sites offer some type of wellness program, according to a recent report from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).2 But solving specifically for the burden of diabetes in the workplace continues to keep 7 in 10 (70%) of benefits managers up at night.1

Two-thirds (67%) say they believe employees with diabetes find everyday management of their condition feels like a full-time job.

They believe a workplace program of support would have myriad benefits:

  • 89% say a company-supported program that simplified diabetes management could lead to a higher quality of life and reduced sick time and related expense.1
  • 83% say believe a program would result in more company loyalty and less turnover.1
  • 90% believe employees with diabetes would feel more empowered at work if they had company help with everyday diabetes management.1
